This novena honors Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, based on the apparitions to St. Catherine Labouré in 1830. It is one of the most widely prayed novenas.
O Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we gather before you with humble hearts. You who appeared to St. Catherine Labouré with hands outstretched, showering graces upon the world, hear our prayers and present them to your Divine Son.
On November 27, 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a humble novice in the chapel of the Daughters of Charity in Paris. In that sacred moment, heaven touched earth.
"Having come in, the angel said to her, 'Rejoice, you highly favored one! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women!'" — Luke 1:28
St. Catherine Labouré saw Our Lady standing upon a globe, crushing the serpent beneath her feet, with rays of light streaming from her hands — graces for all who would ask. Mary spoke tenderly: "Have a medal struck after this model. All who wear it will receive great graces."
O Mary of the Miraculous Medal, you chose a simple and humble soul to reveal your desire for this sacramental of grace. Help us to imitate St. Catherine's humility and obedience. Grant that we may always be open to your maternal guidance. Through your intercession, obtain for us the graces we need this day. We trust in your powerful intercession before the throne of God.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. May the grace of the Miraculous Medal protect us this day and always. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
