Our Lady of Lourdes Novena - Day 1

Our Lady of Lourdes Novena - Day 1

Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Immaculate Virgin Mary, you appeared to the humble Bernadette in the grotto of Massabielle, bringing heaven's light to earth. We turn to you with confidence, asking you to present our needs before your Divine Son.

First Apparition

"I saw a Lady dressed in white. She wore a white dress, a blue sash, and a yellow rose on each foot, the same color as her rosary chain." — St. Bernadette Soubirous

On February 11, 1858, a poor and sickly girl named Bernadette Soubirous went to gather firewood near the grotto of Massabielle. There, in the hollow of the rock, she beheld a beautiful Lady bathed in light. The Lady smiled at Bernadette with a tenderness that drew the child to her knees.

This first apparition was an invitation, a gentle call from heaven to the least and the lowliest. God chose the poor and the simple to confound the proud. Through Bernadette's eyes, the world would come to see the glory of the Immaculate Mother.

Prayer

O Mary, Lady of the Grotto, you chose the humble Bernadette to be your messenger. Teach us the simplicity and openness of heart needed to receive your graces. Grant us the grace we seek (mention your intention), and help us to recognize your gentle presence in the quiet moments of our lives.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Closing Prayer

O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Health of the Sick, Refuge of Sinners, Comfort of the Afflicted, you know our wants, our troubles, our sufferings. Look upon us with mercy. Grant us the grace we humbly beg through this novena. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.
