The Pentecost Novena is the original novena, based on the nine days the Apostles and Mary spent in prayer between the Ascension and Pentecost, awaiting the Holy Spirit.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
"For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding." — Proverbs 2:6
The Gift of Wisdom is the first and highest gift of the Holy Spirit. It enables us to see the world and all of life through the eyes of God, to judge all things according to His truth, and to order our lives toward eternal happiness. The Apostles, gathered with Mary in the Upper Room, prayed for this gift to understand the mysteries Christ had revealed to them.
Come, O Spirit of Wisdom, and reveal to my soul the mysteries of heavenly things, their exceeding greatness, power, and beauty. Teach me to love them above and beyond all the passing joys and satisfactions of earth. Help me to attain them and possess them forever. Grant that I may see all things in the light of eternity, that I may turn from the vanities of this world and set my heart on the things of heaven.
O blessed Mother Mary, who pondered all things in your heart with perfect wisdom, intercede for us that we may receive this precious gift. Amen.
Come, Creator Spirit, visit the minds of those who are Yours; fill with heavenly grace the hearts that You have made.
You are called the Paraclete, gift of God Most High, living fountain, fire, love, and anointing of the soul.
You are sevenfold in Your gifts, finger of God's right hand; You, the Father's solemn promise, putting words upon our lips.
Kindle light in our minds, pour love into our hearts, and sustain the weakness of our mortal bodies with enduring strength.
Drive far away our ancient foe, and grant us peace instead; with You as guide to lead the way, we shall escape all harm.
Through You may we the Father know, through You the Son as well, and may we always cling in faith to You, the Spirit of them both. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from Your celestial home shed a ray of light divine. Grant us the Gift of Wisdom, that we may know the will of the Father and order our lives according to His plan. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Apostles, prepare our hearts for the fullness of Your grace. Amen.
