Day 1 of 9

Novena to St. John Paul II - Day 1

Novena to St. John Paul II - Day 1

Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

St. John Paul the Great, apostle of the new evangelization and fearless witness to the Gospel, we come before God asking your powerful intercession. You who spoke courage into the hearts of millions, pray for us now.

Be Not Afraid

On the day he was inaugurated as Pope, Karol Wojtyla spoke the words that would define his pontificate: "Be not afraid!" These words, echoing Christ Himself, became a beacon of hope for a world gripped by fear, oppression, and uncertainty.

"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." - control."* — 2 Timothy 1:7

St. John Paul II did not speak these words from a place of comfort. He had lived through Nazi occupation, communist oppression, and the loss of his entire family. Yet from that crucible of suffering, he emerged with an unshakeable trust in Christ. He knew that fear is conquered not by human strength, but by the love of God.

Prayer

Almighty God, through the intercession of St. John Paul II, grant me the grace to cast aside all fear. When anxiety grips my heart, remind me that You hold all things in Your hands. Help me to trust You as John Paul trusted You — completely and without reservation. Give me courage to face each day with faith, and to proclaim boldly: "Be not afraid!"

Litany of Trust

Lord Jesus, You who calmed the storm, I trust in You. You who walked upon the waters, I trust in You. You who conquered death itself, I trust in You. St. John Paul II, who trusted unto the end, pray for us.

Closing Prayer

St. John Paul II, you taught us that courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph of faith over fear. Intercede for us before the throne of God, that we may receive the grace we seek during this novena. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. John Paul the Great, pray for us!
