Novena to St. Michael the Archangel - Day 1

Novena to St. Michael the Archangel - Day 1

Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Glorious Prince of the Heavenly Host, St. Michael the Archangel, you who stand before the throne of God and lead the armies of heaven, we invoke your powerful protection and intercession.

Prince of the Heavenly Host

St. Michael holds the highest rank among the angels as the Prince of the Heavenly Host. His very name means "Who is like God?" — a battle cry of humility against the pride of Lucifer. He leads the faithful angels in their eternal service of the Almighty and stands as the Church's mightiest defender.

"There was war in the sky. Michael and his angels made war on the dragon. The dragon and his angels made war." — Revelation 12:7

Prayer

O Mighty St. Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Host, you who were chosen by God to lead the angels in the great battle against the forces of darkness, look upon us with compassion. We are soldiers in the same spiritual war, yet we are weak where you are strong. Lend us your strength, your courage, and your unwavering fidelity to God. Help us to fight the good fight of faith and to stand firm against every temptation. Amen.

Invocation of St. Michael

The traditional prayer of Pope Leo XIII:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Closing Prayer

O Glorious St. Michael, first among the angels and champion of God's glory, we entrust ourselves to your protection. Guard us this day and every day against the assaults of the enemy. St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us. Amen.
