This novena honors St. Monica, whose persistent prayers led to the conversion of her son, St. Augustine. She is the patroness of mothers and wives.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O God, who consoled St. Monica with the conversion of her son Augustine, grant us through her intercession the grace to trust in your mercy and never cease to pray for those we love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be...
St. Monica is remembered as a mother of tears, a woman who wept ceaselessly for the conversion of her wayward son. Her tears were not born of despair but of a profound love rooted in faith. She knew that God hears the cries of the brokenhearted, and so she poured out her soul before the Lord day after day, year after year.
"Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves." — Psalm 126:5-6
A bishop once consoled Monica with words that became prophetic: "It is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish." Her example teaches us that no prayer offered in love is ever wasted.
Dear St. Monica, mother of tears and model of patient prayer, you never gave up hope for your son's salvation. Intercede for me before the throne of God, that I may have the same perseverance in prayer for those I love. Help me to trust that God hears every tear and every whispered plea, especially for (mention your intention). Amen.
Blessed St. Monica, you were a devoted wife and mother who bore the weight of sorrow with grace. Through years of anguish, you clung to prayer as your only refuge. Teach me to bring my deepest sorrows to God and to trust in his unfailing love. May your example inspire me to never lose hope, no matter how long the wait, no matter how dark the night. St. Monica, Mother of Tears, pray for us. Amen.
St. Monica, faithful mother and tireless intercessor, you who shed countless tears for the conversion of your family, look upon me with compassion. Help me to persevere in faith, to trust in God's timing, and to never cease praying for those who have strayed. Through your powerful intercession, may all my loved ones come to know the joy of Christ. Amen.
Three Our Fathers, three Hail Marys, and three Glory Be's.
St. Monica, pray for us and for all mothers who weep for their children.
