Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, you gave St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, Capuchin priest, the great privilege of participating in a unique way in the Passion of your Son. Grant me through his intercession the grace of (mention your intention), which I ardently desire. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Builder of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza

Padre Pio's love was not limited to the spiritual realm. He founded the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (House for the Relief of Suffering), a hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo that opened in 1956. This world-class medical center was built through prayer, sacrifice, and the generosity of those who loved Padre Pio.

"'The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’" — Matthew 25:40

Padre Pio saw in every sick person the suffering Christ. He wanted to provide the best medical care possible as an expression of Christian charity. Today, the Casa Sollievo serves hundreds of thousands of patients annually, a lasting monument to one humble friar's vision of mercy in action.

Dear St. Padre Pio, builder of mercy and healer of the suffering, inspire me to translate my faith into works of charity. Help me to see Christ in every person who suffers and to respond with practical love. Intercede for all who are sick and suffering, and grant my intention (mention your intention) according to God's holy will. Amen.
