O God, who among the other miracles of your power have granted even to the weaker sex the victory of martyrdom, mercifully grant that we who celebrate the heavenly birthday of St. Philomena, your virgin and martyr, may by her example draw closer to you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Purity and Innocence
St. Philomena consecrated her virginity to God at a young age and defended that consecration with her life. Her purity was not merely physical but spiritual -- a total dedication of her heart, mind, and body to Christ alone. She preferred death to the slightest compromise of her vow.
