7 Days of Surrender to Jesus

7-day plan

Day 4: Surrendering Your Fears

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." — Isaiah 41:10

Fear is honest. It tells us the truth about what we love and what we are afraid to lose. We fear for our health because life is good. We fear for our children because we love them. We fear failure because we long to live meaningfully. Fear is not a sign of weak faith; even Jesus, in the garden, sweated drops of blood.

What surrender asks is not that we stop feeling afraid, but that we stop letting fear have the final word. Notice that God does not say, "Do not fear, because nothing bad will ever happen." He says, "Do not fear, for I am with you." The antidote to fear is not a guarantee of safety; it is the presence of Someone who will not leave.

Fear shrinks our world. It makes us cautious where we should be generous, suspicious where we should be open, frozen where we should step forward. When we surrender our fears to Christ, we are not handed a life without risk. We are handed a companion for the risk — one who has already walked through the worst that fear can imagine and come out the other side of the tomb.

Today, name the fear that has been quietly steering your decisions. Say it out loud to Jesus. Then listen for his reply, the same words he spoke to frightened disciples on a storming sea: "Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid" (Matthew 14:27).

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you know my fears better than I do. I name before you the one that has been ruling me from the shadows. I do not ask for a life without danger; I ask for your presence within it. Strengthen me, uphold me, walk beside me into the thing I dread. When fear rises, remind me: you are with me, and you will not let go. I surrender my fear to the One who conquered the grave. Amen.
